As I alluded to in my previous post, I am a creature of habit and it’s a challenge for me to change those habits. So with ds106 helping me learn some tools and letting me see what amazing things some pretty cool people are up to, I thought maybe I could use another push to blog regularly.
Enter: 30 Days to Kick Start Your Blogging with Edublog Teacher Challenges. Their simple tasks could be just the ticket to get going. As requested, I have commented on their post, replied to their discussion question and am now posting on my own blog.
Being a teacher really takes over your life. I am always thinking about teaching and learning. Even though I do, technically, have a lot of time “off” I never really stop working. I spend most supposed breaks reading about best practice, planning lessons or leading workshops. Over the Christmas Break I spent a lot of time getting caught up with my Google Reader and came across Dean Shareski’s K12online pre-conference keynote video Sharing: The Moral Imperative. This keynote looks at the new obligation of sharing for educators.Vodpod videos no longer available.
This really hit home for me – I love working with other teachers, I lead professional development workshops, I am always asking students to collaborate so why wouldn’t I share more of this online? It was quite a surprise when I later saw that Dean is also a part of ds106!
